As such, we call for the shutdown of the Northwest Detention Center (NWDC) in Tacoma, Washington. Immigration detention has no place in Washington State, or anywhere else. We believe that immigrants belong with their families and communities.

No deportation flights
In 2019 we were able to pressure KCA to publicly denounce deportation flights, and the private company that serviced the IC flights voluntarily withdrew service. ICE had to shop around for private service companies; they found an ally in Yakima Air Terminal-McAllister Field.
Now after the County lost a lawsuit filed by Trump first and then second by Biden, ICE is back in KCA and the private company Signature agreed to service them.

Public Policy
All our elected officials and state agencies are responsible for the presence of NWDC still here in WA. Therefore we have worked to pass public policy to
HB1090 Prohibit private detention centers – although the law we use as a guide was struck down in the 9th circuit, those same judges agreed the States have the right to regulate these private business
HB1470 Dept of Health inspect unannounced private detention complaints
SB5270 End Department of Corrections WA and ICE collaboration (coming back next year)
