For over 12 years LR has been the outside support for hundreds of hunger strikes organized and protests by people detained fighting for their humanity, their basic rights, and to ensure people in the outside know what’s happening at NWDC

Public Policy
Public Policy
All our elected officials and state agencies are responsible for the presence of NWDC still here in WA. Therefore we have worked to pass public policy:
- HB1090 Prohibit private detention centers – although the law we use as a guide was struck down in the 9th circuit, those same judges agreed the States have the right to regulate these private business
- HB1470 and HB1232 Dept of Health inspect unannounced private detention complaints

- SB5270 End Department of Corrections WA and ICE collaboration (ongoing)

Political Education: Zines to NWDC Project
For over a decade, La Resistencia has been running a mutual aid program for those detained in NWDC to lessen the burden of detention.
Part of our ongoing work is providing political education through letters, and most recently through our monthly zine project. Developed in December 2025 by LR organizer Karina Solano, our monthly zine is contributed by our team of volunteers to highlight issues and topics that promote political education to those inside.
